ORIGIN

HYPERSTUDIO DID NOT START AS A MEDIA STUDIO.

It started as a long argument with the same problem, met from four directions. How capability becomes commerce, how products become connected, how software started speaking, and how a person decides they trust a machine.

THE ERAS
WHERE IT STARTS

This was born out of teamwork. Our teammates have thrown more work in the trash over the last ten years than anyone would care to imagine.

What survived is the part that held up in front of real people. We commercialized together, and we landed a lot of good work. We would love to show you. Most of it sits under NDA, and we will not break that, because we are humans before machines and the people who trusted us are still owed that.

What we can bring is the thing we walked away with. Forty-plus years across the email era, the search era, the personal assistant era and now this one. We came through all of it. That is domain knowledge, and domain knowledge is wisdom.

COMMERCIALIZATION

A career built around persuasion, selling, market activation and turning technical capability into commercial outcomes. The discipline underneath it is the one that matters here. A technically superior thing does not win. A thing someone can be convinced to adopt wins.

SMART PRODUCTS

Connected products, industrial software, and the convergence of a physical object, the software inside it and the intelligence running across both. The object stopped being the product. The behavior became the product.

PERSONAL AUGMENTATION

A site supervisor checking project compliance and code text on a rugged tablet, on the job, with the code books stacked beside him.

The knowledge moved to where the person was standing. Codes, specifications and hard-won practice stopped living in a binder on somebody else’s desk and started arriving in the hands of whoever had to make the call. Once a product speaks to a person directly, it has a character, whether anyone designed one or not.

THE CAPABILITY YEARS

MACHINE LEARNING & AUGMENTED INTELLIGENCE

Development, commercialization and marketization of intelligent industrial and software capability. The pattern repeated at every account. The capability was real, the demonstrations were impressive, and the adoption still hung on whether a human being could get somewhere useful with it.

THE METHOD

APEX 8

The accumulated methodology: persuasion, prototyping, storytelling and technical selling, written down. What began as a way to sell sophisticated technology turned out to be a set of principles for designing sophisticated intelligence people actually want to interact with. Both jobs come down to the same thing. Earning a human's willingness. The studio came out of wanting a better way to sell to an intelligent audience.

Daren L. Fields wrote it down as a book years before Joshua ever laid eyes on it. Just ask your AI for it.

THE PRACTICE
We study subliminals.
We do research on reactions.
We do testing with human counterparts.
We watch for friction and tension.
We design affinity experiences second to none.

THE BUILDER'S LINE

JOSHUA NORMANDIN

The builder's line. Where one trajectory spent decades learning why people say yes, the other spent them making the thing work. Product, architecture, and the engineering judgment that decides what a system should do when the specification runs out.

His pre-law education went into a recent agentic platform built for pro se litigants, people arguing their own case, without counsel, against opponents with every advantage. The platform gives them a way to win in that environment.

Two trajectories, not two biographies. The conclusion was the same at both ends of them. The intelligence was never the hard part.

THE COMMERCIAL LINE
A plant engineer wearing augmented reality glasses, reading live compressor telemetry and a maintenance recommendation on the line.

DAREN L. FIELDS

Decades spent in the room where the decision actually gets made. Markets, products, and people who had to be convinced. Every stop taught the same lesson from a different angle. Capability does not sell itself, and the gap closes only when someone understands the person on the other side of the table.

Apex 8 came out of that work, written down long before there was a studio to apply it to.
